Five killed in fire at residential house in Surat’s Limbayat area

Five persons were killed in a fire that broke out at a residential house near Mithi Khadi in the Limbayat area of Surat on Monday.

According to preliminary information, saree-making work was being carried out at the house, where flammable materials were stored. A suspected explosion involving combustible chemicals is believed to have triggered the blaze.

Two persons died on the spot, while three others who sustained severe burn injuries were rushed to a hospital, where they later succumbed during treatment, officials said.

On being alerted, fire brigade teams and police personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue and firefighting operations. The blaze was brought under control after sustained efforts by firefighters.

Authorities have completed cooling and search operations at the site.

Officials said an investigation has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
