Five injured in gas cylinder blast in Naranpura house

At least five persons sustained burn injuries after a suspected gas cylinder explosion triggered a fire inside a house in Chamundanagar area of Naranpura in Ahmedabad early on Tuesday morning, officials said.
Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service teams rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to adjacent houses in the densely populated locality. The injured were shifted to Sola Civil Hospital with the help of local residents and the 108 emergency service.
According to Divisional Fire Officer Swastik Jadeja, preliminary findings indicate that a gas leakage inside the house may have led to the accumulation of combustible gas, which subsequently ignited and caused a powerful explosion. “The fire team reached the spot promptly and controlled the flames. Locals informed us that a sudden blast was followed by a fire, injuring five persons who were inside the room,” he said.
Officials added that the injured individuals are not believed to be local residents, and their identities could not be immediately ascertained as no relatives were present at the scene.
During inspection, a gas cylinder was found in an empty state but still connected to a stove, pointing towards a possible leak. Authorities suspect that the leaked gas may have ignited due to an early morning activity, resulting in the blast.
The explosion caused significant structural damage to the house, blowing off the door and shattering nearby window panes, while also triggering panic among residents in the neighbourhood.
Further investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the incident, officials said.
