On the heels of the controversy surrounding former Maharashtra-cadre IAS (Indian Administrative Service) probationary officer Puja Khedkar, around five IAS officers in Gujarat have been directed to undergo medical re-examination, say sources privy to the development.

The order was issued after allegations surfaced that these officers had secured positions in the civil service based on false disability certificates.

Internal sources suggest that the Gujarat government’s General Administration Department (GAD) expressed doubts about the certificates submitted by these officers following the ‘Puja Khedkar’ incident.

One senior officer had claimed to be visually impaired. Similarly, three junior officers had cited ‘locomotive disability’ in their certificates.

Following the Puja Khedkar scandal in Maharashtra, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had directed all officers of All India Services to undergo a medical re-examination and obtain a new disability certificate.

Sources reveal that all IAS, IPS (Indian Police Service), and IFS (Indian Forest Service) officers in the state who have submitted disability certificates are directed to undergo medical tests at Ahmedabad’s Asarwa Civil Hospital.

After the tests, these officers must submit new disability certificates to the UPSC.
