Accused Sourav Biswas

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch and the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell have made the first breakthrough in the recent school bomb threat mail case with the arrest of a suspect from West Bengal, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused was apprehended following a coordinated inter-state operation and has since been brought to Ahmedabad. He has been placed under police remand for further interrogation.

Senior officials described the arrest as a “significant achievement” for the city police, particularly the cyber unit, which had been working to trace the origin of the threatening communication through technical surveillance and digital forensics.

Investigators said the accused is being questioned extensively and that crucial information is expected to emerge during the course of the remand. “We require substantial inputs from the accused to establish the full chain of events and ascertain whether others were involved,” an officer said.

The police added that further details regarding the motive, method and possible wider conspiracy will be shared on the 5th of this month, once preliminary interrogation is complete. Authorities have urged the public and media to cooperate with the investigation until additional information is officially released.

The case had triggered concern in the city after the threatening email surfaced, prompting swift action by the cyber and crime units. With the first arrest now made, officials indicated that further developments may follow in the coming days.
