Fire in Gujarat’s Dahod solar plant causes ₹400 cr damage, no casualties reported

A fire erupted on Monday night at the under-construction 70-megawatt solar power plant of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Bhatiwada Village, located in Gujarat’s Dahod district. The blaze caused extensive damage to the site, with initial estimates suggesting a loss of nearly ₹400 crore.
The fire reportedly began around 9 pm on Monday and quickly spread through the plant due to strong winds. Solar panels, transformers, electrical cables, and other equipment were completely gutted in the flames. Authorities say nearly 95% of the plant have been destroyed.
Firefighting teams from Dahod (four units) and nearby Zalod (one unit) were deployed and worked tirelessly through the night to douse the flames. Despite their efforts, it took several hours to bring the fire under control due to its intensity.
While no casualties have been reported so far, the financial and operational impact is huge. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations by both NTPC officials and the local police are currently underway.
