Fire engulfs 4 scrap godowns in Vapi, brought under control after 4 hours

A major fire broke out at a scrap godown in Gujarat’s Karvad area of Vapi district on Friday morning and quickly spread to three adjoining godowns, triggering panic among residents. No casualties or injuries were reported.
According to preliminary information, the blaze erupted in a scrap warehouse located within the limits of the Vapi Municipal Corporation (VMC). The fire rapidly spread to nearby godowns, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and causing concern among people in the surrounding areas.
Firefighters from the VMC and the Notified Area fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched an extensive firefighting operation. The blaze was brought under control after nearly four hours of efforts by fire personnel.
Police teams also reached the site to assist in managing the situation and maintaining order.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and an investigation is underway.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing number of fires reported at scrap godowns in the Vapi Municipal Corporation area. Residents have raised concerns over the threat such facilities pose to public safety and the environment.
The municipal corporation had earlier launched a drive against illegal scrap godowns and removed several such units. However, the campaign remained incomplete, prompting calls for stricter action against unauthorised scrap storage facilities operating in the area.
