Fire breaks out in computer lab at Ahmedabad college, students and staff safe

A fire broke out in the computer lab of R B Institute of Management Studies (RBIMS), in the Hirawadi area of Ahmedabad on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 11.45 am, prompting a swift response from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES).
Three fire tenders from the Naroda division were rushed to the spot after the department received an emergency call. A team of six firefighters brought the blaze under control within an hour, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.
According to preliminary findings, the fire originated from one of the computers in the lab and subsequently spread to adjacent desks and electronic equipment. Fire officials suspect an electrical short circuit could be the cause, though a detailed investigation is underway.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Fire officials confirmed that all students and staff had been safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.
A senior official from AFES said, “The fire was confined to the computer lab and was quickly contained. We are assessing the extent of damage caused to the equipment and infrastructure.”
