Fire breaks out at shop near Prabhat Chowk in Ghatlodia, 4 fire tenders rush to spot

A fire broke out in a shop near Prabhat Chowk in Ghatlodia on Friday, spreading rapidly to adjoining shops before being brought under control by the fire brigade, officials said.

According to preliminary information from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), the fire started in a ground-floor shop around midday. Locals noticed thick smoke billowing from the premises and alerted the control room. Within minutes, the flames began to spread to neighbouring shops in the row, prompting panic among traders and residents in the busy locality.

Four fire tenders, along with water tankers and emergency response teams, were immediately deployed to the site. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before managing to contain it and prevent it from spreading further into the market area.

Officials said no casualties have been reported so far. However, property damage is expected to be significant, as several commercial units sustained damage to stock and equipment. Firefighters remained at the site to carry out cooling operations and prevent any chance of reignition.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. A short circuit is suspected, but AFES officials stated that a detailed investigation will be conducted to establish the source of the blaze.

Local police also reached the spot to manage traffic and ensure the safe evacuation of nearby establishments. Traders are assessing the losses, while authorities have advised shop owners to conduct electrical safety checks to avoid similar incidents.

Further updates are awaited as the investigation continues.
