Fifth phase of UG admissions begins in Gujarat from Aug 7, over 2.75 lakh seats still vacant

With thousands of undergraduate seats still vacant across Gujarat’s universities, the government has announced the launch of a fifth phase (Special Phase-3) of the GUJCAS-based online UG admission process, starting August 7.
So far, four phases two regular and two special comprising 21 online admission rounds have been completed. Despite this, admissions have not crossed the 3 lakh mark out of the total 4.7 lakh available seats, leaving over 1.75 lakh seats unfilled.
According to data released by the state’s higher education department:
3.90 lakh students registered for UG courses
3.70 lakh students were verified as eligible
3.64 lakh students received one or more admission offers
3.10 lakh students confirmed admission by paying fees
14,986 students later cancelled their admissions
After accounting for cancellations, the final number of confirmed UG admissions stands at 2,95,182.
The decision to launch another phase comes after multiple requests from universities and written appeals from student-parent associations and advocacy groups. The government has responded by opening fresh registration and scheduling two more online rounds under the new phase.
Dates for fifth admission phase:
August 7–10: New online registration
August 11: Document verification deadline
August 13: First round of seat allotment
August 14: Last date to confirm admission
August 18: Second round of allotment begins
Importantly, students who receive three or more offers in the first round but fail to confirm any will be ineligible for the second round. Those who previously cancelled their admission can still participate in the new round without re-registering.
