The Education department of the Central government recently released the All India Higher Education Survey Report 2021–22. Although the numbers in this report indicate female students are outnumbered by males, a remarkable exception was registered in PG courses, which have a positive female-male gender ratio.

A total of 37.55 lakh students throughout the country were enrolled during the tenure in the normal mode of various PG courses like MA (master of arts), MCom (master of commerce), MSc (master of science), and MSW (master of social work), among others.

These included 16.46 lakh male and 21.08 lakh female students enrolled in normal mode.

Meanwhile, 13.13 lakh students were enrolled in external mode (distance learning). Out of them, 6.16 lakh were male and 6.96 lakh were female.

Gujarat’s government and private colleges saw an influx of 2.16 lakh students in PG courses in the same tenure.

Out of these, 97,560 were male and 1.18 lakh were female.

Of the 1.83 lakh students enrolled in normal mode, 85,479 were male and 98,232 were female. Similarly, in distance mode, out of a total of 17,926 students, 7,742 were male and 10,184 were female.

Gujarat University (GU) sees a 10% difference between the number of students from the two genders, where females outnumber males.

Other courses offered on the higher education spectrum include undergraduate (UG), MPhil (master of philosophy), PhD (doctor of philosophy), and integrated, among other certificate-level courses.

In UG courses, Gujarat saw a total enrollment of 13.67 lakh students, out of which 7.75 lakh are male and 5.92 lakh are female. PhD enrollment had 4,799 male and 3,734 female students.
