A father and his two sons from Surat were called to Bhavnagar’s Valukad village by their former partners in the guise of a land deal. However, the three of them were tied with ropes and beaten over their disputes from a previous deal, killing the elder son.
Tulsi Lathia, a farmer, and his two sons were called by Labhu Savani and his son, Darshan, for a land deal, and were asked to bring ₹1.10 cr to close the deal.
When Lathia and his sons arrived at Valukad village as decided, they were taken to a plantation (vadi) owned by the Savanis to count the money. Four other persons were already present at the plantation.
Tulsi Lathia, and his sons- Vipul and Nilesh, were tied with the ropes by six people including Savanis, and were allegedly beaten with steel cables and sticks. Out of the three, Vipul, the elder son, succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier, the two parties had agreed to buy 24 bigha (9.64 acre) land in Surat’s Bodhan village. However, the deal was later cancelled and they had a dispute over the payment of ₹90 lakh. This had led to an enmity between the partners.
Not only did the accused beat the three, but they also threatened to kill and absconded with the money.
The police have registered a case against Labhu and Darshan Savani, and four unknown assailants for murder, loot, and collective criminal act among others under IPC 302, 396, 342, 323, 504, 34, 120B, and GP Act section 135, and have initiated the investigation.
