Father-son killed in Diu crash after speeding Surat car rams vehicle

A horrific accident on Diu’s Nagwa Road late Sunday night claimed the lives of a father and his teenage son from the same Sindhi family of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh after a speeding Surat-registered car rammed into their vehicle head-on.
The tragic crash also left the deceased man’s wife and nephew critically injured, who have been shifted to a private hospital in Una for treatment.
According to initial information, 50-year-old Prithvi Wadhwani, a resident of Gwalior, had come to Junagadh with his family to attend the inauguration ceremony of a new oil factory started by his elder brother Girdharilal near Junagadh.
After attending the opening function on Sunday, both brothers and their families had planned a leisure trip to Diu, followed by a visit to Somnath temple.
At around 11 pm, the family was travelling towards a hotel near Nagwa for dinner after spending time at a swimming pool. Prithvi Wadhwani, his 16-year-old son Aniket, wife Neetu and nephew Omesh were travelling in the car when a speeding Surat-passing car crashed into their vehicle with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled.
Prithvi and his 16-year-old son Aniket died on the spot in the crash. Neetu and nephew Omesh sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a hospital in Una.
Police investigation revealed that the car involved in the accident belongs to a man named Mihir, a resident of Yogi Chowk area in Surat. A total of six people were travelling in the car at the time of the accident.
Soon after the incident, Diu Police rushed to the spot and detained three persons, including the driver of the car. However, three other occupants allegedly fled from the scene taking advantage of the darkness.
Police teams have launched a search operation to trace the absconding accused.
