In a deliberate attempt to take away from the farmers, the authorities have notified the farmers, who lost their lands for the expressway, to not file a case against the arbitration order, and only when they provide the affidavit of withdrawing the claim, will they be paid the compensation.

According to Ekta Gramin Praja Vikas Manch, the Bharuch district arbitrator has rewarded the farmers of Bharuch and Amod, who lost their land with the construction of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway.

The compensation amount was to be deposited by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to the special land acquisition officer, and deputy collector of Ankleshwar.

Farmers of Bharuch and Amod who filed cases in the district court against the arbitrator’s order, have been sent notices, asking to pull the claims back and provide the guarantee in return.

According to the law, if the farmers get less compensation, they can file a case against the arbitrator's order in the district court.

Meanwhile, despite serving notices to the NHAI, special land acquisition officer and the arbitrator, no response was received in the court.

Even within the time limit of 90 days, the NHAI has not deposited the compensation amount.

The farmers have been asked to present an affidavit declaring that they will withdraw the claim and will not file for such claims in the future.

So far, no official compensation has been provided to the farmers that would ask the farmers for such a guarantee before the payment.

If the farmers procure such an affidavit, they would not be able to knock on the court doors if they get paid less compensation.
