An unknown burglar broke into a three-storeyed house in the Danilimda area and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth ₹1.13 lakh while the family was away attending a religious pilgrimage,

According to a complaint lodged at the Danilimda Police Station, the burglary occurred between 6 pm on December 26 and 1 am on December 27 at a residence in Avon Row House, located near the Barrel Market. The complainant, Jubedabibi Sindhi, reported to the police that the main lattice gate and multiple safes inside the house were opened using duplicate keys.

The family had locked the house and left for Bhadiyad to attend the Bhadiyad Pir Baba padayatra on December 26. When they returned around 1 am the next day, they found rooms on the ground and second floors ransacked, with safes forced open and their contents scattered.

On verification, the complainant discovered that ₹30,000 in cash kept in a safe was missing, along with gold ornaments valued at ₹83,800. The stolen jewellery included a gold necklace, anklets and earrings kept in a suitcase and safes inside the house.

Police said the complainant delayed approaching the police as she did not initially have the bills for the jewellery. After obtaining the bills, she formally complained on December 30.

An FIR has been registered against an unknown person for house-breaking and theft. Police said they are examining the possibility of the use of duplicate keys and are checking for CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused. Further investigation is underway.
