Jamnagar mass suicide

Four members of a family belonging to Jamnagar reportedly committed suicide on July 10 by consuming poisonous medicine near Devmbhoomi Dwarka’s Dharagad village.

According to police, the family of Ashok Dhuva (42), who ran a brass furnace in Jamnagar, his wife Leelu (42), son Jignesh (20), and daughter Kinjal (18) hailed from Jamnagar’s Gokul Nagar.

They left Jamnagar on two two-wheelers, possibly passed Lalpur, and reached Dharagad, situated near Bhanvad.

There, they entered 500 metres inside an internal road near a railway track and reportedly consumed poison , leading to their deaths on the spot.

A passerby, seeing them unconscious, informed the Bhanvad police. Following this, all four were rushed to the Bhanvad primary health centre, where doctors declared them dead.

The police identified the deceased by calling the relatives from the phones recovered at the scene.

The poison — reportedly an insecticide for cotton crops — was also found near the spot, leading the police to the conclusion that they had committed suicide by consuming it.

To ascertain the exact cause, the police have started an investigation based on the information from the recovered phones. They will also interrogate the family members of the deceased.
