Just as the state was coming to terms with a family of seven committing mass suicide in Surat, another case has emerged from North Gujarat today.
A family of four ended their lives over alleged marital torture.
The family committed suicide by jumping into the Dantiwada dam in Banaskantha district.
The deceased, belonging to Bhatamal Nani village in Palanpur taluka, include a woman, her two children—a daughter and a son and her mother-in-law.
Police arrived at the spot as soon as locals reported this incident, and the bodies were recovered.
The dead bodies were then shifted to the Palanpur civil hospital for a post-mortem.
On the complaint of the deceased woman’s brother, Praveensinh Chauhan, Palanpur taluka police has registered a case under Section 306 against the woman’s husband, Narayansinh Chauhan, and her father-in-law, Gainsinh Chauhan.
As per the complaint made by Praveensinh, his sister decided to end her life with her two children and mother-in-law due to marital torture.
Statements from villagers and neighbours have also been registered by the police in this matter, and a probe is underway.
Recently, seven members including three children, of a businessman’s family, ended their lives in an apparent case of mass suicide in Surat on Oct 28.
Police also discovered a suicide note at the scene, shedding light on the distressing circumstances.
