An incident shook Gangotri Nagar Society on Bamroli Road early Friday when a midnight fire claimed the lives of four members of a jeweller’s family, just hours before they were to leave for their elder son’s engagement.

The victims were identified as Kamalbhai Doshi, his wife Devalben, and their sons Dev and Raj. The family, associated with the jewellery trade, was asleep when the fire broke out.

According to initial information, the blaze erupted suddenly inside the house. With all windows and doors shut, thick smoke filled the residence, leaving the family with no escape route. Officials believe they died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation, as the bodies showed no major burn injuries.

Around daybreak, neighbours noticed a strong smell of smoke and rushed to the Doshi residence. After breaking window panes, they saw dense smoke inside and immediately alerted the fire brigade and police.

Three fire brigade teams and police personnel reached the spot and forced open the doors and windows of the upper floor. Inside, all four family members were found unconscious and declared dead.

The fire department has confirmed that suffocation appears to be the primary cause of death. However, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, and police as well as fire officials are examining possible electrical faults or other triggers.
