Family of 4 booked for obstructing police duty near Sabarmati Riverfront

The Sabarmati Riverfront West Police have registered a case against two brothers and their parents for allegedly obstructing police personnel during night patrol duty and creating a public disturbance near Vallabhasadan Cut in Ahmedabad.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on March 16 when a police team from the Riverfront West Police Station was conducting routine night patrols in the B Division area to maintain public order.

Police officials said that around 12.25 am, officers noticed a two-wheeler approaching from the wrong side of the road near Vallabhasadan cut. The vehicle, was allegedly being driven without helmets and in a manner that endangered the lives of the riders as well as other road users.

The police team stopped the vehicle and questioned the rider, who identified himself as Dev Yagneshbhai Pandya(18), a resident Naranpura and native of Bhavnagar district.

During the check, the rider was asked to produce his driving licence and vehicle documents but allegedly failed to provide them. The pillion rider identified himself as Gaurav Yagneshbhai Pandya(22), the elder brother of the accused.

Police alleged that when officers tried to counsel the two for riding on the wrong side and violating traffic rules, the brothers became agitated and began arguing with the officers. The duo allegedly used abusive language in public and attempted to obstruct the police from carrying out their lawful duty.

According to the police, the situation escalated when the parents of the two men arrived at the spot and allegedly joined the argument with the police personnel. The family members reportedly began recording videos of the police on their mobile phones and continued to argue loudly, attracting a crowd of onlookers at the location.

Police said the gathering created a law-and-order situation, prompting officers to call for additional police support. The two brothers and their parents were subsequently taken to the Sabarmati Riverfront West Police Station for further questioning.

The parents were identified as Yagneshbhai Chandrakantbhai Pandya, (46) and his wife Binaben Yagneshbhai Pandya (45). During questioning at the police station, officers recorded their statements and initiated legal proceedings in the matter.

The police have registered a case against the accused for rash driving, obstructing public servants in discharge of their duty, using abusive language in public and creating a disturbance.

Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
