Fake TTE nabbed at Kalupur station for cheating labourers, uneducated travellers

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Sunday night arrested a man posing as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Ahmedabad Railway Station in Kalupur for allegedly duping unsuspecting passengers, particularly labourers and less-educated individuals, by falsely checking tickets and collecting money through online payments.

According to officials, the arrest took place at around 10 pm on 2 June near the foot overbridge on the Sabarmati side of the station. During a routine security check, RPF Sub-Inspector Piyush Chaudhary noticed a man in a TTE uniform behaving suspiciously. Upon questioning, the individual failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence or identity.

The man was immediately taken to the RPF post for further interrogation, where he was identified as Shiv Shankar Jaiswal, 45, son of Chhotelal Jaiswal, and a resident of Sunderpur in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

During questioning, Jaiswal admitted to impersonating a TTE and fraudulently collecting money from passengers under the guise of ticket checking. He would claim discrepancies in their tickets or promise confirmed berths for waitlisted travellers, and then collect payments via QR code.

RPF officials said Jaiswal had no valid railway ID or authorisation documents in his possession—only an Aadhaar card and an ATM card were recovered. This was not his first offence: he had allegedly carried out similar activities at Ahmedabad station on 30 May 2025 as well.

Officials revealed that the accused deliberately targeted vulnerable passengers, often from the labour class or those with limited literacy, using ticket-related pretexts to extort money. He wore a mask to conceal his identity and blend in with railway staff.

Jaiswal was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) Ahmedabad for further legal action.
