Fake ST certificate scam rocks Gujarat, two brothers secure govt jobs under different quotas
An alleged case of misuse of caste certificates to secure government jobs under reserved categories has come to light in Gujarat, with documents purportedly showing that two brothers from Morbi district obtained employment through different reservation categories despite belonging to an Other Backward Class (OBC) community.
The allegations relate to a family from Vasundhara village in Wankaner taluka of Morbi district.
According to documents cited by complainants, Navghan Revabhai Sarasiya recently secured a position as a junior clerk in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
However, records submitted by those raising the allegations claim that official Census data shows no Scheduled Tribe population in Vasundhara village.
The complainants have also produced copies of school records and other documents which allegedly identify Navghan Sarasiya and his family as belonging to the Hindu Bharwad community, classified under the OBC category.
According to the allegations, Navghan's school-leaving certificate issued in 2015 and records relating to his father, Revabhai Sarasiya, mention their caste as OBC.
It has further been claimed that in June 2025, Navghan obtained an OBC non-creamy layer certificate through due process, but subsequently secured employment under the ST category.
The allegations also extend to Navghan's elder brother, Haresh Sarasiya, who reportedly obtained a government job as a Revenue Talati in 2015 under the OBC category.
Documents cited by complainants suggest that both brothers applied for Scheduled Tribe certificates at the Wankaner Mamlatdar office on September 25, 2017, and that the applications were approved within 24 hours.
The matter has raised questions regarding the verification process followed in the issuance of caste certificates and recruitment under reserved categories.
Youth organisations and local activists have demanded a detailed inquiry into the case and sought legal action if the allegations are found to be true.
They have also called for verification of the caste certificates, cancellation of appointments obtained through alleged misrepresentation and recovery of any benefits secured on the basis of such certificates.
Officials have not yet issued a formal statement on the allegations. Further investigation is awaited.
