A man posing as a police officer and wanted in a honeytrap case in Ahmedabad was arrested during a routine vehicle check by Khambha police in Amreli district.

The accused, Chirag Jadav, a resident of Jesar in Bhavnagar district, was intercepted after police found his vehicle suspicious during patrolling near Khambha.

During the initial search, police recovered six bottles of foreign liquor from the car. However, a more thorough inspection led to the discovery of a fake police identity card concealed in a secret compartment near the steering wheel.

Police said Jadav allegedly used the forged ID to impersonate a police officer and carry out criminal activities. During interrogation, it emerged that he was wanted in a honeytrap case registered in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad, where he had allegedly extorted ₹3 lakh from a complainant by posing as a policeman.

Officials said the accused would often use the fake identity to target individuals on highways and other locations.

Under the supervision of Jayveer Gadhvi, police have registered a case against Jadav under the prohibition laws and for possession of forged documents. Authorities have also informed the Ahmedabad police about his arrest.

Further investigation is under way.
