Faith beats market slowdown as Gujarat temples witnesses ₹718 crore donations in 5 years

At a time when global economic uncertainty and a slowdown in the Indian market are being felt, the flow of devotion at Gujarat’s historic pilgrimage sites has defied the downturn. Temples at Ambaji, Somnath, and Dwarka have collectively received donations exceeding ₹718 crore over the past five years.
Despite rising gold prices, offerings of gold have not declined. In fact, Ambaji temple alone has received a continuous inflow of gold donations during this period.
In times of economic slowdown, people often cut back on non-essential spending. However, these figures clearly indicate that faith has triumphed over financial uncertainty.
Post-Covid, while economic sluggishness has persisted for nearly five years, these major temples have recorded total donations of about ₹718.91 crore. Notably, Ambaji temple received around 48.992 kilograms of gold as donations during this period. There was only a slight dip about one kilogram in gold offerings during the financial years 2022–23 and 2024–25.
In contrast, Somnath and Dwarka temples have not disclosed detailed figures of gold and silver donations. The reasons for not making such data public could range from security concerns to administrative policies. However, based on overall donations and offerings, it is believed that the volume of gold and silver gifts at these temples is also substantial.
While the economic market may experience cycles of boom and slowdown, these pilgrimage centers in Gujarat continue to witness steady growth in donations.
Even with rising gold prices, Ambaji temple received about 13.136 kilograms of gold in a single year, while Dwarka and Somnath do not publicly disclose their gold donation figures.
