Even with none of their demands being met by the government, the 17,000 fair price shop dealers have decided to conclude their indefinite strike just after two days on Nov 2.

Reportedly, the shop dealers were assured of a resolution after Diwali, in the meeting.

Earlier in the day, All India Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Federation leader Prahlad Modi had said that the strike would continue since the meeting with the food and supplies minister Kunvarji Bavaliya did not fetch any results for the fair price shop dealers.

No demands met

The meeting held by the minister with the dealers had many arguments from both sides, however, no demands from the dealers were met.

Moreover, the minister of health and family welfare for Gujarat, Rushikesh Patel said that the government was committed to providing the poor and middle-class cardholders with the supplies, and optional channels would be explored if the strike continues.

Patel cleared that the compensation was to be provided to the shops with less than 300 cardholders, and the government is ready to compensate.

Reports also suggest that the state government was ready to implement ESMA (Essential Services Maintenance Act ) that assures the supply of services related to people's daily lives by the parliament.

The shop dealers’ issues

Apart from the non-payment of ₹20,000 compensation of shops serving less than 300 card holders, the dealers had also complaints about the weight disparity in the grain shipments they receive and the unreliable server of the ministry that has led to friction with cardholders multiple times.
