EX-IPS Sanjiv Bhatt convicted by Palanpur court in NDPS case
Ex-IPS Sanjiv Bhatt was convicted in the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985) case at an additional sessions court today in Palanpur.
The sentence will be pronounced on Mar 28.
During Bhatt’s tenure as a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Banaskantha in 1998, his team arrested Sumer Singh Rajpurohit, claiming that they had found drugs in a hotel room where Rajpurohit was staying.
Later, Rajasthan police accused Bhatt of planting the drugs in Rajpurohit’s room.
In 2018, CID Crime arrested Bhatt and the then police inspector (PI) IB Vyas of Palanpur in the case.
However, the Palanpur court later allowed PI Vyas to be acquitted by making him a witness. Bhatt had also filed an application in the Palanpur court seeking permission to call some witnesses from his side in this case.
Bhatt was sacked from his post in 2015.
