Elderly woman brutally murdered in Ahmedabad’s Vadaj, case filed

An elderly woman was brutally murdered in front of her son in the Old Vadaj area of Ahmedabad late on Saturday night. Two unidentified men stabbed the woman repeatedly with knives before fleeing the scene. The Vadaj police have registered a case of murder and have begun a thorough investigation.
The incident took place in the Old Vanjara Tekra locality of Old Vadaj, where Fuliben Oad (53), the elderly woman, was sleeping in the courtyard of her home along with her five-year-old grandson. Her son, Ashish Oad, who works as a software developer in an IT firm, had returned home after meeting friends on Saturday night. When Ashish awoke in the middle of the night due to the heat, he noticed the house had lost power and heard the sound of his mother’s bangles.
As he got out of bed to check, he saw two men forcibly pulling his mother outside. Ashish tried to intervene, but one of the assailants stabbed him in the abdomen. The men then attacked Fuliben with knives, inflicting fatal wounds to her neck and abdomen.
Ashish, in a state of shock, realised that the main electricity switch had been turned off. He switched it back on, only to find his mother lying in a pool of blood. He immediately alerted neighbours, who called an ambulance. Fuliben was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Speaking to reporters, Ashish said, “I saw my mother being murdered in front of my eyes. They stabbed me as well. I just want justice for her.”
Fuliben’s family members, including her husband Ratilal and eight-year-old grandson Dharmik, lived with her in the Old Vadaj home. Her elder son lives separately in Chandkheda. According to relatives, Fuliben had no known disputes or enmity with anyone, making the motive for the killing unclear.
ACP H M Kansagara of the B Division said, “The police have registered a case of murder against two unidentified men. Our teams from Zone 1 LCB and the Crime Branch have also joined the investigation. We are analysing nearby CCTV footage, checking mobile phone locations and questioning suspicious individuals to trace the killers.”
Police are currently exploring all possible angles, including whether the murder was a planned attack or linked to an internal family dispute. The investigation is ongoing.
