Elderly man killed in hit-and-run accident on Ahmedabad's SP Ring Road

An elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Ahmedabad's SP Ring Road after an unidentified vehicle allegedly struck his two-wheeler and ran him over before fleeing the scene, police said.

The accident occurred on the Vadodara Express Highway bridge near Hathijan Circle.

According to police, the victim, a resident of Uttamnagar near Ghodasar, had left home on Monday morning on his two-wheeler to attend a relative's condolence meeting.

While he was passing over the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway bridge on SP Ring Road, an unidentified vehicle travelling at high speed allegedly hit his two-wheeler, causing him to be thrown onto the road.

Police said the accident was severe, with the vehicle's tyre reportedly running over the victim's body and head. He sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.

The unidentified driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, officials said.

The Traffic-I Division police have registered a case against the unidentified vehicle driver and launched an investigation.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and have initiated efforts to trace and arrest the absconding driver.
