Elderly man assaulted, property vandalised in Bapunagar, four booked

An elderly man was allegedly assaulted with an iron pipe and property outside his residence was vandalised in the Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad early on Tuesday, police said. The Bapunagar Police Station has registered a case against four persons, including two identified accused, and launched an investigation.
Nalinbhai Babubhai Samvdas (63), a resident of Gujarat Housing Board in Bapunagar, alleged that the incident took place around 12.15 pm on March 31 while he was resting outside his house.
Samvdas told police that the accused, identified as Jigar Patel alias Jigar Kathiyawadi and his associate Sepul Patel, arrived at his residence on a two-wheeler along with two unidentified accomplices. The men allegedly began shouting and abusing him, demanding to know the whereabouts of his son Devang.
The complaint states that the dispute stems from an earlier altercation on March 28 near Shukan Char Rasta in Nikol, where the accused had allegedly demanded money from Devang, leading to a quarrel. The situation had reportedly escalated when Devang’s friend intervened, resulting in minor injuries.
On Tuesday, when Samvdas attempted to pacify the accused and asked them to speak calmly, one of them allegedly struck him on the back with an iron pipe, causing injury. Hearing his cries, family members and neighbours rushed to the spot.
Police said the accused then proceeded to damage property parked and installed outside the residence. Two motorcycles belonging to the complainant’s relatives were vandalised, while the glass of an iron safe kept outside a nearby office was smashed. The board and a fan installed in a shed adjoining the premises were also damaged before the accused fled the scene.
The complainant alerted the police control room, following which officers reached the spot and initiated action. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the four accused under relevant sections pertaining to assault, criminal intimidation and damage to property.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused, while statements of witnesses and family members are being recorded as part of the investigation.
