Earthquake tremors felt in Kutch's Rapar second time in a month

Rapar town in Kutch district experienced another earthquake tremor in the early hours of Friday, triggering panic among residents. The tremor was felt at around 5:47 am and measured 2.5 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was located approximately 19 kilometres from Rapar. Over the past several days, Rapar and surrounding areas have witnessed frequent seismic activity, creating fear and anxiety among the local population.
Earlier, multiple tremors were recorded in the Rapar region on December 26 and 27, with four earthquakes reported over two days. Notably, on December 26, a strong earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck the region, reviving memories of the devastating Kutch earthquake of the past that had caused widespread destruction and loss of life.
According to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Gandhinagar, the 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred at around 4:30 am. The epicentre was located about 22 kilometres west-southwest of Rapar, near Gedi village, at a shallow depth of 9 kilometres. Due to its shallow depth, strong tremors were felt across Rapar, Bhachau, Anjar, and nearby rural areas.
