A 22-year-old woman was killed on the spot after a dumper truck allegedly rammed into her two-wheeler in Khokhra on Wednesday night, triggering outrage among local residents. The horrific accident occurred around 10.15 pm, when the victim was riding her scooter on a busy road.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, Khushbu Shamsher Gupta, a nurse at Uni ENT Hospital near LG Bridge, was riding her father’s Activa from Gayatri Dairy towards the Madrasi Temple. As she crossed the road near Aryoday Society, a dumper truck allegedly driving at high speed and in a rash manner, rammed her scooter.

The impact of the hit was so severe that the dumper’s tyre ran over Khushbu’s face, killing her instantly at the scene. Neighbours immediately alerted her family, and her elder brother, Dr Nishan Shamsher Gupta (25), an MBBS intern at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital, rushed to the spot. He was later seen devastated at the civil hospital’s post-mortem room upon identifying his sister’s body.

Following the incident, angry locals gathered at the site and expressed strong resentment over the movement of heavy vehicles in residential areas, alleging negligence and rash driving by dumper operators. Traffic on the road was briefly disrupted as tensions ran high. The I-Division Traffic Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The dumper driver was detained, and legal action has been initiated in connection with the accident.

Khushbu, described by relatives as a caring daughter and hardworking professional, was helping her family through her nursing job. Her sudden and violent death has left the family and community in deep grief.

Authorities have urged motorists to drive responsibly, especially on busy city roads, as investigations continue into the fatal accident.
