A scam in the post-SSC scholarship for the students of scheduled caste came to light, when a student found out that a freeship card had already been issued in his name by a dummy student. The scammer had even received the  college fees of three years on the victim’s name.

The post-SSC scholarships are provided by the state’s department of social justice and empowerment to the students of Scheduled Caste, aiding them after their SSC studies (class 10).

Pratik Parmar, a resident of Dhayaj village in Vadodara’s Padra, aspired to pursue IT (information technology) after his SSC. He was advised by his college to get a freeship card from the scheduled caste welfare office at Narmada Bhavan in Vadodara.

When the office entered Parmar’s Aadhaar card number on the computer for processing, a freeship card already existed in Parmar’s name for a long time, and scholarship amounts were also deposited in a bank account through that card.

Parmar, who was completely unaware of the situation, found out that a diploma engineering student at FD Mubin Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dehgam, had used his name to obtain the scholarships.

The scholarship amount in the year 2018-19 and for three years thereafter, amounting to a total of ₹2 lakh was paid to the dummy student.

This amount has been deposited in the account of Shree Kadi Nagarik Sahakari Bank Ltd, CTM branch, in Ahmedabad.

Padra police sought details from the SC office at Narmada Bhavan and obtained a written statement about the amount embezzled using Parmar’s Aadhaar card.
