Drunk truck driver rams into vehicles near Godrej Garden City Bridge

A major traffic disruption was reported near the Godrej Garden City bridge in Ahmedabad on Monday afternoon after a speeding truck, allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver, rammed into multiple vehicles, including an Activa scooter and a car.

Eyewitnesses said the truck was being driven recklessly when it lost control and crashed into vehicles ahead of it, causing panic and congestion on the busy stretch. A bottle of alcohol was reportedly found inside the driver’s cabin, raising strong suspicion of drunk driving.

Several commuters narrowly escaped serious injuries in the incident. However, no casualties had been officially reported at the time of filing this report.

The accident led to a severe traffic jam in the area, with long queues of vehicles seen on both sides of the road. Traffic police are yet to reach the spot.

Meanwhile, local residents and bystanders took it upon themselves to manage the traffic until officials arrived.

“Today, in the jurisdiction of L Traffic Police Station, an accident occurred at Jagtapur Crossroads where a driver of a loaded truck rammed into a four-wheeler and an Activa scooter,” said traffic police. 

“The Activa rider and the pillion rider sustained injuries in the collision and were immediately sent to the hospital for medical treatment. The truck driver fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle. Proceedings are underway to register a complaint regarding the accident. We are also looking into the alcohol matter,” added the police.
