Drunk driver runs over sleeping labourer family in Vadodara; 4-year-old child killed, four injured

A heartbreaking incident took place in Vadodara on Tuesday (October 21), where a drunk driver rammed his speeding car onto a footpath, crushing a labourer family sleeping there. The horrific accident claimed the life of a four-year-old child on the spot, while four others sustained injuries.

What happened?

According to reports, the accident occurred late at night near Avdhut Crossroads on Vishwamitri Road. The driver, identified as Nitin Jha, allegedly lost control of his car under the influence of alcohol and drove onto the footpath, running over a family of daily wage workers sleeping there. A four-year-old boy was killed instantly after the car’s wheels ran over him. Among the injured are two women, identified as Soniya and Asha, along with two others.

After the crash, the driver attempted to flee the spot, but locals chased him down and caught him near Akshar Chowk. Angry residents thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police. During inspection, police recovered bottles of foreign liquor from his car.

Police confirmed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. His blood samples have been sent for forensic testing, and further action will be taken based on the lab report.
