Drum washer blast in Surat textile mill kills two, 25 injured

A massive fire broke out in Surat’s Palsana taluka as a drum washer machine exploded in a mill, killing two workers and injuring at least 25 on Monday afternoon.
Administrative officials and police, along with the fire brigade, began efforts to control the fire.
The incident occurred at Santosh Textile Mill on the Kadodara–Bardoli road near Jolva village.
While workers were on duty, the drum washer machine suddenly exploded, triggering a fire. Oil-filled plastic drums toppled, and large quantities of cloth accelerated the spread of flames, trapping the workers inside.
Teams from Palsana and Kadodara police, along with fire brigades from Surat city and Bardoli, rushed to the spot to douse the fire and rescue trapped workers.
Five of the 25 injured workers critical
The exact cause of the blaze at Santosh Mill will be known only after the fire is completely extinguished, but in the preliminary stage, it is believed to have started after the drum washer machine burst. Oil-filled drums intensified the fire, which then engulfed the cloth stock and trapped the workers. Out of approximately 25 injured workers, the condition of five is reported to be critical.
