Drum-Toker scheme for Guj farmers fail, dept to return ₹40 crore
The drum-toker scheme announced by the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department of Gujarat has failed to benefit over 12 lakh farmers, resulting in the department returning a grant of ₹40 crore to the government.
Under the scheme, the farmers were to get one drum and two tokers for agricultural activities. 14,03,945 applications were also received for the same.
However, it is believed that stringent conditions prevented the farmers from availing benefits of the scheme.
Out of the applications received, only 2.5 lakh farmers were provided the scheme’s benefits. However, with over 14 lakh applications, a grant of ₹80 crore was provided to the department.
Now, the department will now return ₹40 crore as the scheme has failed to benefit the estimated number of farmers.
