The battery-operated drone recovered from the runway of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) airport on Feb 6, was reportedly equipped with a camera chip.

Following this revelation, the drone is to be sent to the Gandhinagar-based Forensic Science Lab (FSL) for further examination.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has also been alerted to the possible intentions behind deploying this device, which has heightened security on airport premises.

On top of this, a probe has also been launched by the nearby police stations in Meghaninagar, Sardarnagar, and Airport.

Locals are being questioned, and CCTV footage is also being examined of this drone reaching the airport runway.

This drone was found lying near a parked aircraft on the runway of the airport.

Drone flying rules in India

It is noteworthy that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has put up restrictions for drones to fly near certain areas.

Drone-flying zones are divided into three categories, namely the green zone, the yellow zone, and the red zone. No permission is required to fly over the green zones as directed by the DGCA, while yellow zones are controlled airspace, and special permission is required to enter.

Meanwhile, red zones are strictly no-fly zones, and entering these areas could result in legal action against the operator, including a fine of up to ₹1 lakh.

Ahmedabad’s SVP airport also falls under the red zone.
