Severe drainage overflow has been reported near the Jasapur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) adjacent to SG Highway, impacting surrounding areas. Drainage water from newly incorporated areas of Gandhinagar, including Vavol, Sargasan, Kudasan and Raysan, is being routed to the Jasapur STP.

Due to inflow exceeding the plant’s capacity, untreated drainage water is overflowing and being released into nearby land, raising environmental and health concerns.

₹189.58 crore STP project delayed

According to details received, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation had floated a ₹189.58 crore tender for:

A new 100 MLD sewage treatment plant

A new pumping station

Augmentation of the existing pumping station

Five years of operation and maintenance

The tender was expected to be finalised in July, but delays have occurred due to revisions in tender conditions. Although the price bid has recently been opened, final approval is still pending.

Once approved, construction of the new STP is expected to take two years, meaning SG Highway and surrounding areas will likey to face drainage overflow issues for at least two more years.
