A domestic help allegedly fled with cash and valuables amounting to ₹1.61 lakh from the residence of a woman in the Sola area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon, as per a complaint lodged with the Sola High Court police station.
The complainant, Manishaben Kalpeshbhai Shah (42), a homemaker residing at B/902, Empire Skyline, on Science City Road, told police that the accused, identified as Laxmanbhai Rameshbhai Raut, had been working at her house for the past six months. His duties included laundry and general cleaning, with working hours from 9 am to 3.30 pm and again from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
As per the FIR, the incident occurred between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm on July 30. At the time, Manishaben, her mother-in-law Madhuben, and daughter Vishwa were at home, along with the domestic help. Manishaben then stepped out with her daughter to visit Palladium Mall on SG Highway, followed by a visit to a clothing exhibition near Mansi Circle.
“When she returned home around 1.30 pm, Laxman was nowhere to be found and noticed that the locker was missing," a police official said.
The stolen items include ₹1.09 lakh in cash, two gold rakhis valued at approximately ₹50,000, and two silver rakhis worth around ₹2,000. The family had previously experienced minor thefts at their former residence near Vande Mataram Greens on Sattadhar Crossroads, raising further suspicion about the domestic worker.
Based on the complaint, the accused has been identified as a resident of Sola. His native place is Surata village in Jothri taluka, Dungarpur district, Rajasthan.
The Sola police have registered a case of theft and initiated a search to trace the absconding domestic worker
