A 37-year-old EPFO inspector has filed a police complaint alleging that ₹1.05 lakh in cash was stolen from his rented residence in Sabarmati by two women employed as domestic help.

The complainant, Vipul Somvirsingh Jat, originally from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, is currently posted as a Provident Fund Inspector at the EPFO office in Maninagar. He has been residing alone at Satsang Park Society in the D-Cabin area of Sabarmati for the past six months.

In his FIR, Jat stated that he had engaged a domestic worker, Geetaben Shambhubhai Rabari, who also worked in the same society for household cleaning over the past 12 days. For the last two days, Geetaben’s neighbour and relative, Meenaben Babubhai Kalaswa, had also been working at his home to assist with laundry and related chores.

According to the complaint filed with the Sarbarmati police, Jat had kept a sum of ₹1.05lakh in ₹500 notes of his salary and personal savings, inside a black bag that also contained a Realme tablet. The bag was hanging in his room. As per his usual practice, he left for work around 10 am on July 16 and returned late in the evening.

When he needed the tablet later that night. Around 9 pm, and discovered that while the tablet was still there, the cash had vanished. After searching the house and failing to recover the money, he contacted the police and filed a complaint.

Jat alleged that both Geetaben and Meenaben knew where the house key was kept in a meter box outside the door and therefore had access to the premises in his absence. He expressed suspicion that the duo may have taken advantage of this to steal the cash.

Sabarmati police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita about theft and criminal breach of trust and have started an investigation into the matter. No arrests have been made so far, and further inquiry is underway.
