A controversy has erupted after resident doctors at the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)-run LG Hospital in Maninagar were allegedly found sleeping inside the ICU, leaving patients unattended.

According to information, an orthopaedic surgery was conducted at the hospital on Saturday night. However, after the operation, the resident doctors reportedly went to sleep inside the ICU.

A video showing doctors sleeping on ICU beds went viral on social media, following which an inquiry has been ordered into the matter. Sources said that an explanation has been sought from the head of the department as well as the doctors concerned.

Earlier, the hospital’s in-charge medical superintendent had told the media that ICU beds are never vacant due to the continuous inflow of patients requiring critical care. However, the viral video allegedly shows resident doctors on duty sleeping on vacant ICU beds, putting the hospital authorities in an embarrassing position.

Responding to the incident, hospital committee chairman Bharat Kakadiya said that the medical superintendent has been asked to clarify which resident doctors were sleeping in the ICU during duty hours. He added that if a satisfactory explanation is not received, appropriate action will be taken.
