Doctor’s bungalow burgled during family’s overseas trip, cash, cheque books stolen

In a case of burglary reported in the Satellite area of Ahmedabad, unidentified miscreants broke into a doctor's residence while the family was away on an international trip and decamped with cash and cheque books, police said on Saturday.
The incident came to light when Dr Anish Tiwari, a city-based dentist, returned to his residence at Prernatirth Bungalows, near Prernatirth Derasar, around 7:30 am on May 18 after a family vacation to Georgia in Europe. Upon arrival, Dr Tiwari found signs of forced entry at his bungalow, including broken wooden handles, a shattered glass panel on the first-floor gallery door, and tampered locks.
The complaint was lodged with the Anandnagar Police Station. The intruders gained entry sometime between 3:00 am on May 10 and 6:45 am on May 18. They reportedly entered the bedroom, retrieved keys from a drawer beside the bed, opened the wooden cupboard and the iron Godrej safe kept inside, and made away with Rs 1.2 lakh in cash. They also stole two cheque books belonging to Dr Tiwari’s Axis Bank and his mother-in-law, Kokilaben Shah.
As per officials, the master bedroom was found ransacked. The safe had been opened using the cupboard keys, which were stored in a bedside drawer. Cash and cheque books were missing. Upon discovering the theft, Tiwari contacted the police control room.
Police have registered a case against an unknown person and initiated an investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made. The authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and verifying entry and exit logs to trace the culprits.
