The AI171 crash on June 12 at the BJ Medical College hostel in Ahmedabad claimed the lives of 241 passengers, along with students and mess workers, bringing the total death toll to 278. However, 19 victims have yet to be identified, and 15 individuals remain missing.

Authorities have emphasised that DNA samples are essential to help identify the unrecognised victims. Among the missing are five hostel mess staff members, whose whereabouts are still unknown.

The Crime Branch has launched a formal investigation and search operation. Police will be collecting blood samples from relatives of the missing persons to carry out DNA matching, which is expected to play a vital role in confirming identities.

Out of the 15 individuals still missing, three official missing person reports have been filed, and search operations are underway in Meghaninagar.

Efforts are being made to expedite the identification process to bring closure to the families affected by the tragic incident.
