DJ music at wedding creates clash between communities in Ahmedabad, seven held

Tension prevailed outside the Shaherkotda Police Station on Friday after several people including relatives of a groom staged a sit-in protest, alleging that a wedding procession was attacked with stones following a dispute over loud music during the ongoing month of Ramzan.
Police said seven persons, including a minor, have been detained in connection with the incident.
As per the complaint, the incident occurred when wedding rituals were under way and a DJ was playing music as part of the celebrations. Residents from the vicinity allegedly dialled the emergency helpline 112, objecting to the loud music. A police response vehicle reached the spot and, after intervention, the DJ stopped the music.
However, members of the groom’s family alleged that before and during the intervention, a group of local residents entered into a heated argument, raised slogans and subsequently resorted to stone-pelting. They claimed that motorcycles were damaged and the windows of a car were smashed in the melee.
The victim’s family further alleged that the stone-pelting forced the wedding party to prematurely halt parts of the procession, causing emotional distress and financial loss. “The wedding rituals had begun and the celebrations were disrupted. We have incurred substantial expenses,” a family member said, demanding stringent action against those responsible.

Protestors gathered at Shaherkotda Police Station carrying banners and raising slogans, calling for strict legal action. They accused members of the community of assault and deliberate disruption, alleging that the clash stemmed from objections to the DJ music during Ramzan.
Police, however, said the wedding ceremony has since been completed and that the situation is now under control. Officials clarified that while allegations of stone-pelting are being investigated, there is, as of now, no confirmed evidence to suggest that women were involved in the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Rupalsinh Solanki said, “We received a call on 112 regarding loud DJ music. A police team reached the spot and the DJ was turned off. Subsequently, an altercation took place between two groups, during which some vehicles were damaged. We have detained seven persons, including one minor, and further investigation is under way.”
Police added that CCTV footage from the area is being examined and statements of witnesses are being recorded. Additional forces were deployed in the locality to prevent any escalation.
Authorities have appealed for calm and urged residents not to spread rumours, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for violence or damage to property.
