Direct passenger flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo will commence from May 15 under a partnership involving prominent Sri Lankan resorts and hotels and Sri Lankan carrier FitsAir.

The airline will operate the flight three times a week, i.e. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

FitsAir, Sri Lanka’s first private international airline, aims to enhance connectivity between western India and the island nation, with a particular focus on leisure travellers from Gujarat.

Earlier this year, in February, the Sri Lankan tourism minister reportedly announced that this move is aimed at strengthening the tourism and bilateral economic ties with India.

Tourism stakeholders have identified Gujarat as a fast-growing source market, citing rising outbound travel and increasing interest in Sri Lanka as a holiday destination. The new route is expected to strengthen tourism ties and support travel demand to key destinations across the country.

The flights are also reportedly expected to boost visitor traffic to the integrated resorts and hotel development in Colombo, which are being positioned as a regional hub for entertainment and lifestyle tourism.

Travel companies said the new route between Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport would be supported by curated packages for Indian tourists, combining stays in Colombo with multi-destination itineraries across Sri Lanka, including visits to Kandy and coastal resort destinations.

Flight schedule (effective May 15):

> Ahmedabad → Colombo: 10:45-13:55

> Colombo → Ahmedabad: 23:25-02:35
