Digital payment of AMC tax increases by 21% from last year
AMC collected tax worth more than ₹1,000 cr in five months
With a massive number of taxpayers adopting digital mode for tax payments this fiscal year, the tax department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced that the tax collection revenue has surged beyond almost ₹1,000 cr in a short span of five months.
The lion’s share of this revenue is attributed to the property tax for 2023-24, they announced on Sept 5.
Incentives to early payers, punishment to the defaulters
In 2022-23, the tax department announced a 100% interest waiver, which continued till Apr 2023.
Moreover, a 15% tax rebate scheme was announced for 2023-24.
Revenue committee chairman Jainik Vakil said, “The tax rebate scheme and stringent measures against defaulters have produced good results. We have given rebates to taxpayers who paid early and punished those who defaulted by issuing them notices, sealing properties, and even auctioning off their properties.”
From Apr 1 to Sept 2,₹828.25 cr was generated from property tax, ₹85.66 cr from profession tax, ₹81.69 cr from vehicle tax, and TSF (transfer service fees) charges generated ₹8.50 cr.
