A BJP leader in Rajkot has stepped down as Dhoraji municipality president within 14 days of her appointment.

In her resignation letter submitted to the district collector, Sangita Barot stated that she was elected as a member of Ward No. 9 on February 18 2025, and on March 5, 2025, BJP members unanimously elected her as the municipality president. However, she mentioned that the responsibilities of the municipality were beyond her capacity, and therefore, she was stepping down from the position.  

Notably, on her social media account, she was seen consuming liquor, and smoking hookah, and throwing bundles of cash. 

Knowing well, the Bharatiya Janata Party awarded her the ticket for Ward No 9 in Dhoraji. Later, district and state BJP leaders even appointed her as the president of the Dhoraji municipality.  

However, with the party’s reputation at stake, and under pressure from the state BJP leadership, Barot resigned from the president’s position just 15 days after assuming office.  

What’s shocking is that the video featuring the leader consuming liquor and smoking hookah was not recorded by a rival, but was self-recorded and proudly shared by her on her own Instagram account.

The video went viral even before the elections, creating a stir in Dhoraji and across Saurashtra politics. 

Meanwhile, the appointment of Kaushik Vagadiya as the new city BJP president has sparked significant dissatisfaction within the party.
