Dhordo becomes India's first fully solar-powered village under PM Surya Ghar scheme

Dhordo, a border village in Gujarat's Kutch district, has become India's first village to achieve 100% solar electrification under the Centre's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, officials said.
The village has emerged as a model for sustainable rural development, with all households now powered through solar energy generated under the scheme.
According to officials, a total rooftop solar capacity of 185 kilowatts has been installed across 85 households in the village.
The solar infrastructure is expected to generate more than three lakh units of electricity annually, meeting the village's energy requirements while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
Officials said the transition to renewable energy is expected to provide significant economic benefits to residents by eliminating household electricity bills and enabling the sale of surplus power back to the grid.

The village is projected to receive annual economic benefits of over ₹14 lakh through savings and additional income generated from excess electricity production.
The village, which has gained prominence as a tourism destination following the development of the Rann of Kutch region, is now being cited as a model for other rural communities seeking to adopt clean energy solutions.
