Dholera men die of dehydration after consuming excessive liquor, hooch rumours refuted

A police investigation has cleared the air around rumours of two men dying after allegedly consuming hooch in Dholera.
Vijay Makwana (45) and Sanjay Makwana (32), residents of Dholera, were found dead near the Dholera cremation ground.
According to the preliminary medical report, it was revealed that both individuals had consumed alcohol in the morning and died due to dehydration caused by extreme heat.
As per reports, both individuals were addicted to alcohol and had consumed liquor on Sunday morning. This led to widespread rumours that their deaths were due to hooch. As a result, senior police officials rushed to the scene, registered a case of accidental death, and initiated an investigation.
Om Prakash Jat, Ahmedabad Rural Superintendent of Police, stated that according to the preliminary medical report, both deaths were due to dehydration caused by the heat. Additionally, no traces of methyl alcohol (methanol) were found in their blood reports. He said that primary results of the post-mortem had concluded that the cause of death was ‘dehydration’.
Notably, Congress leaders were alarmed about the incident of ‘latha kand’ on social media on Monday. “An incident of latha kand has occurred in Dholera, and a worker has died, but the police are trying to suppress the entire matter,” wrote Shaktisinh Gohil on X on Monday, asking Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel to take cognizance of the matter.
He later updated, “I received a phone call from the DSP of Ahmedabad stating that due to excessive consumption of country liquor in Dholera, two individuals have died. The deceased had consumed liquor from the same bootlegger, and others who also consumed liquor from that place have been admitted to the hospital as a precaution. The DSP himself is monitoring the case, which I truly appreciate. However, the way anti-social activities are increasing across Gujarat is a matter of concern”.
