Gujarat is grappling with a hullabaloo where a veteran BJP leader, Parshottam Rupala, who remarked ill on the Kshatriya community, is sticking to his seat despite a huge uproar by the irked community.

Amid the protests, a large number of rallies, and requests from national leaders of the community, Rupala, undeterred by Kshatriyas, is set to fill out the form of candidature on Apr 16.

“At 10.30 am on Apr 16, when Parshottam Rupala will go to fill out the form, a public meeting will be held near Bahumali Bhavan in Rajkot. Preparations for organising the public meeting have started today,” said BJP corporator Ketan Patel.

After learning of Rupala’s intentions, Karni Sena national president Mahipalsinh Makrana said that the protest against Rupala will continue and he will stay in Gujarat until Rupala’s candidature.

Resentment among Kshatriyas

Despite apologies from Rupala, the Kshatriya community and Karni Sena have been adamant about cancelling the candidature of the BJP contender from Rajkot.

Waves of opposition and agitation have been seen from the remote villages of Saurashtra to urban settings including Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Kutch, etc.

The Kshatriya women who threatened the government with self-immolation (johar) were kept under house arrest.
