Dengue outbreak in Gujarat, cases surge by four times in one and a half months
Chikungunya cases increase by one and a half-fold

Mosquito-borne diseases have reared their head after monsoon in Gujarat. Dengue cases have increased four times in the last one and a half months.
Till July, the cases clocked at 876 and one death was reported. Now, as of Sept 17, the cases stand at 3,334, a fourfold number.
Last year, a total of 6682 dengue cases were reported in the state and seven people lost their lives. From 2019 till September this year, a total of 40,782 dengue cases have been reported with 41 deaths.
July to September see the highest rise
According to doctors, the highest increase in dengue cases is usually seen between July and September. Therefore, during these months, it is essential to control mosquitoes and their breeding inside and outside homes and workplaces.
Going by just the cases reported in Ahmedabad’s Sola Civil hospital, a total of 826 cases were reported from June 26 to Sept 17.

In India, a total of 94,198 dengue cases have been reported this year and 91 deaths have been reported. Kerala has reported the highest number of dengue cases at 9,770.

Chikungunya cases also on the rise
Gujarat has registered a total of 15,553 suspected cases of chikungunya till Sept 17. Out of which, 230 were confirmed cases.
In 2021, there were 4,044 cases of chikungunya in the state, and in 2022, that reduced to 1046.
Alarmingly, a total of 3,711 cases of chikungunya have been reported this year from across the country.
