Delivery hub employee suspected in theft of 549 parcels worth ₹18.87 lakh in Ahmedabad; FIR lodged

An alleged large-scale theft of e-commerce consignments has come to light at a delivery hub in the Satellite area of Ahmedabad, where 549 parcels valued at ₹18.87 lakh were found to have gone missing over a period of nearly six months.

The case has been registered at the Anandnagar police station following a complaint filed by Antik Ahmed Syed (54), an enforcement officer with Insta Cart Service Pvt Ltd, an e-commerce logistics company headquartered in Bengaluru.

According to the first information report (FIR), the thefts allegedly took place between May 20 and November 6, at Shop Nos. 2 and 3 of Kala Residency, located near the Radio Mirchi Tower in the Satellite area. The premises function as a distribution hub, from where parcels ordered through various online platforms are dispatched by delivery personnel.

The matter came to light on November 12, when the area manager of the hub flagged discrepancies in parcel dispatch records. A subsequent audit of the facility revealed that hundreds of consignments had not been scanned or dispatched through the system during the said period.

Police said the missing parcels included 26 high-value electronic items, such as premium mobile phones and laptops, worth ₹12.25 lakh. These included several Apple iPhone 16 models, Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones, OnePlus and Vivo handsets, as well as two Acer laptops. In addition, 523 other parcels containing clothes, footwear, electrical appliances and daily-use items worth ₹6.62 lakh were also found to be missing.

“The total value of the stolen consignments has been assessed at ₹18.87lakh. Preliminary findings suggest internal pilferage, and suspicion has been raised against one or more delivery personnel working at the hub during the relevant period,” a police officer said.

The complainant told police that CCTV footage and internal system data were examined before approaching the authorities. The company’s hub in charge and the area manager have been named as witnesses in the case.

Based on the complaint, police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for theft and criminal breach of trust and have initiated further investigation to identify the delivery worker(s) allegedly involved. Officials said efforts are underway to scrutinise CCTV footage, delivery logs and employee records to trace the stolen parcels and fix responsibility.

Further action will be taken as the investigation progresses, police added.
